Unlike last year, where the official description explicitly pointed out that only 2018 games would be featured, this year doesn’t seem to be entering such a rigid window. The most important of these is the official description of Nintendo Direct, which says only that it will feature “the next games for ”.
A mundane event – not the kind of bomb-filled event that “wins” E3 – but good enough.īut while the evidence, at least at first glance, suggests that Nintendo has nothing major to say, some evidence suggests that it may not be. Nintendo could just focus on the upcoming games for this year, all of which have already been announced, along with a few token third party announcements, and have a good show. After all, the Switch already has an obscene half-year setback, with games like Astral Chain, Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Daemon X Machina, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening all set to release by the end of this year (and that doesn’t count the third-party and indie games that will also be releasing on the Switch during that time). It would be easy to assume that Nintendo will have a satisfactory E3, but ultimately without incident as far as this year is concerned. The official description of their show was also very vague. We have no idea what Nintendo is planning. Ultimate Last year.īut this year ? We do not know. It was Breath of the wild in 2016, Super Mario Odyssey in 2017, and Super Smash Bros. What’s unusual – in recent years, for example, Nintendo always announced in advance which game they would make the centerpiece of their screening at E3. But other than that, they didn’t show their hand much. We know they’ll be there, along with another Direct, and we know they won’t be announcing any new hardware there (so all those Switch overhaul rumors have to wait a while). NOTEntente has been very quiet on its E3 plans this year.
